League Match Eight – 9th August

On a beautiful summer evening at the Field of Dreams in Devon, two groups of Footgolf enthusiasts gathered for a league match night that promised to be exciting and competitive. The sun was shining, the birds were chirping, and the air was filled with excitement as players laced up their cleats and got ready to tackle the challenging course.

In the first group, saw the current top two juniors compete to scratch off some previous scores. Jake Cottrell & Max Alford. The recent Footgolf match between Max Alford and Jake Cottrell in the under 12 category was one for the books. Both players showcased their skills and determination as they battled it out on the course, with Jake ultimately coming out on top with a strong lead in the Footgolf Devon leaderboard.

The match began with Max Alford stepping up to the first hole, a tricky par 3 that required a well-placed shot to avoid the surrounding hazards. Max displayed his expert precision by landing his shot perfect on the fairway Jake, on the other hand, struggled on the first hole, taking a double bogey.

As the match progressed, both players continued to showcase their talents. Jake recovered well consistently hit accurate shots, earning points on each hole with his skillful play. His ability to read the greens and adjust his shots accordingly allowed him to stay competitive throughout the match. Maz, on the other hand, faced some challenges on certain holes but managed to make up for it with his long drives and accurate putting.

One of the standout moments of the match came on the eighth hole, a long par 4 that required players to navigate around a series of obstacles. Max approached the hole with confidence, hitting a perfect drive that landed just shy of the green. He then followed it up with an excellent chip shot that rolled into the hole, earning him another point on the scoreboard. Jake also followed suit, with a perfect tee shot and incredible approach putt that nearly dropped.

As the match drew to a close, Jake maintained his lead on the scoreboard, consistently scoring points with his strong play. His ability to recover from difficult situations and make crucial putts allowed him to extend his lead over Max. Despite some impressive shots from Max, including a stunning long drive on the final hole, Jake’s consistent play proved to be too much for his opponent to overcome.

In the end, Jake finished the match with a total score of 65 earning 7pts scratching a previous score and extending a comfortable lead in the under 12 Footgolf Devon leaderboard. Max, on the other hand, finished with a total score of 67 putting him in a solid position in the standings but ultimately falling short of the lead. Overall, the match between Max Alford and Jake Cottrell was a thrilling display of skill and determination. Group 2 saw the adults take to the field of dreams. On a beautiful Friday evening, Tony Follett arrived with one thing on his mind: winning the title. With one eye on the prize, he was determined to put up an impressive performance in the Stableford format. Joining him in the group were George Williams and Elijah Hiller in the under 16 category, and Elijah’s father Andrew Hiller, with each player looking to improve their scores and make a mark in their respective categories.

As the match kicked off, Tony wasted no time in showing his class on the course. With his precision and accuracy, he managed to hit an astounding 16 points in the Stableford, scratching a previous score and putting himself in a strong position to challenge for the title. His experience and skill were evident as he navigated through the challenging course with ease, consistently hitting outstanding shots and sinking putts with finesse.

George Williams, on the other hand, had a bit of a rough start to the match. Despite his talent and potential, he struggled with some putting early on, and also ditches on the course, which resulted in him shooting a disappointing -6. However, he did not let this setback deter him, and he remained focused on improving his game and putting up a better performance in the upcoming matches.

Elijah Hiller, showed great promise on the course. With his strong drive and keen eye for the target, he was unable  to scratch a previous score by hitting an -14. However, his consistent play and determination to succeed set him apart from the rest of the players, and he was definitely one to watch out for in the future.

Lastly, Andrew Hiller found himself in a tough spot as he tried to register his fifth score in the competition. Despite his best efforts, he struggled to find his rhythm on the course and ended up shooting a -15. While it was not the result he had hoped for, Andrew remained optimistic and determined to bounce back in the next matches and improve his overall standing in the competition.

Two more league matches a available for players to register their 5 scores or scratch previous scores, including a bonus round which players won’t want to miss as this round could have a huge impact on the final standards. The finals night on 30th will be the players 6th score which will determine this years champions in their category’s and of course determine the Footgolf Devon League Champion 2024.
