League Match Seven – 2nd August 2024

Last night, the Field of Dreams Footgolf Devon hosted a thrilling league match that showcased the skills and passion of its participants. Despite the windy conditions, the course was meticulously cut to precise standards, providing a challenging yet enjoyable playing experience for all involved. With two groups of three and two groups of four competing, the competition was fierce and the atmosphere was electric.

As the sun began to set over the beautiful countryside of Devon, the players arrived at the Field of Dreams Footgolf course with a sense of excitement and anticipation. The wind was strong, making every shot a test of skill and precision. However, the course was in immaculate condition, with lush green fairways and perfectly manicured greens beckoning the players to showcase their talents.

The first group to tee off, it was the Under 12 players that were geared up for a thrilling match. The competition was fierce as Max Alford took an early lead, showing great skill and precision with each kick. Jake Cottrell, Jensen Black, and Jaden Hawkins were not far behind, determined to give Max a run for his money.

As the match progressed, Max Alford continued to impress with his consistent performance. With each hole, he showcased his talent and strategic thinking, carefully planning each shot to maximize his points. His precision and accuracy were unmatched, as he effortlessly navigated the obstacles on the course. Jake Cottrell was not one to be underestimated, however. Jaydan Hawkins, may have only scored one point in the match, but his enthusiasm and passion for the game were truly inspiring. Despite facing tough competition from his counterparts, Jaydan never gave up and continued to give it his all until the very end. Jensen scored 6 points to put up a strong fight and pushed Max to his limits. Jaydan Hawkins, despite only scoring one point, never wavered in his commitment and dedication to the game.

In the second group out had the adults take to the field of dreams with excitement as a group of three, comprising of Tony Follett, the seasoned contender; Tomas Brown, the dedicated player; and Talan Annear, the course record holder, took on the challenging course. With over 45 competitive contenders vying for the top spot, the scene was set for an intense and thrilling match.

As the game unfolded, it was Tony Follett who emerged as the standout player, showcasing his skills and expertise on the course. With a remarkable score of 14 points, Tony proved why he was considered one of the best in the game. His precision and accuracy when kicking the ball were unmatched, and he navigated the course with ease, overcoming obstacles and challenges with finesse. Tony’s performance was truly a sight to behold, and it was clear that he was destined for greatness in the world of Footgolf. Tomas Brown, on the other hand, put up a commendable effort on the course, scoring a respectable 11 points. While he may not have matched Tony’s performance, Tomas displayed determination and perseverance throughout the game. His strategic approach and steady gameplay were commendable, and he showed great potential for growth and improvement in the future. Tomas may not have been the top scorer in the group, but his dedication and passion for the sport were evident in every kick and every move he made on the course. However, the biggest surprise of the day came from Talan Annear, the course record holder, who unexpectedly struggled with a score of -13, his worst performance to date. Talan, known for his remarkable skill and precision on the course, found himself facing challenges and obstacles that seemed insurmountable. Despite his best efforts, Talan was unable to replicate his previous success on the course, and he ended the game with a disappointing score. However, in the face of adversity, Talan remained optimistic and determined, and his highlight of the evening was a hole in one on The Cambridge (Hole 8) which made up for bad day at the office.

The 3rd group had seasoned pro Chris Hopton, with magic man Matt Capel and Jamie Cottrell by his side, the trio looked poised and ready to dominate the course. Little did they know, they were about to embark on a journey that would leave fans in awe and opponents shaking their heads in disbelief.

From the first hole, it was clear that Hopton was on fire. With laser focus and unwavering determination, he effortlessly navigated the challenging terrain and sunk shot after shot with precision and finesse. His skill and experience were unmatched as he displayed a level of mastery that seemed almost supernatural. By the 18th hole, Hopton had racked up an impressive 16 points, leaving his competitors in the dust. But it wasn’t just Hopton who was shining on the course that day. Matt Capel, known as the magic man for his uncanny ability to make seemingly impossible shots look effortless, was also putting on a show. With a flair for the dramatic and a touch of finesse, Capel dazzled the crowd with his impressive ball control and pinpoint accuracy. Each shot seemed more impressive than the last, leaving fans in awe of his incredible talent. And let’s not forget about Jamie Cottrell, the dark horse of the group, usually the designated adult for the under 12’s, was given the opportunity to play with fellow adults at the field of dreams. Despite facing tough competition from his fellow teammates, Cottrell remained calm and composed, focusing on his own game and letting his skills do the talking. With a combination of power and finesse, Cottrell navigated the course with ease, sinking shot after shot with precision and accuracy. By the end of the match, Cottrell had managed to shoot an impressive -8, solidifying his place as a force to be reckoned with on the footgolf scene.

In the end, it was Hopton who emerged victorious, finishing the match with an impressive 16 points and solidifying his status as one of the top footgolf players in the world. Capel and Cottrell also put some impressive shots but couldn’t match Hopton, finishing with -8 and -10 points respectively, showcasing their incredible talent and skill on the course.

The final group out on the course under 16s player George Williams and Will Lugg with their fathers Steve Williams and Marcus Lugg. As the match kicked off, it was evident that George Williams was in fine form whilst wearing his new vinted Nike jacket. His precise kicks and strategic shots saw him scoring an impressive 11 points throughout the game. George’s performance was a testament to his dedication to the sport and his natural talent on the course. Meanwhile, Marcus Lugg also put on a solid performance, scoring four points with some impressive shots of his own. Despite facing tough competition from George, Marcus held his own and managed to secure a respectable score for himself. His determination and focus were clear as he navigated the course with precision and accuracy, never losing sight of his goal. However, the biggest surprise of the night came from none other than over 45 player Steve Williams. With years of experience under his belt, Steve was expected to perform well on the course. But to everyone’s shock, Steve ended the game with a staggering -29 points. His shots seemed to be plagued by bad luck, with several going wayward and costing him valuable points. Despite his disappointment, Steve maintained a positive attitude throughout the game, showing true sportsmanship in the face of adversity.
The Lugg duo also had their fair share of ups and downs during the match. Will Lugg, the son of Marcus, struggled to find his rhythm on the course, ending the game with a score of -5 points. Despite his low score, Will showed great determination and perseverance, never giving up even when faced with challenges. His willingness to learn and improve will surely serve him well in future matches.

As the sun began to set on the footgolf course, the players embraced in a show of sportsmanship and camaraderie, congratulating each other on a match well-played.
