League Match Six – 26th July 2024

On a picturesque afternoon at the Field of Dreams, the Footgolf Devon League Match 7 took place with players from all over the region coming together to compete in this highly anticipated event. The sun broke through the clouds, casting a warm glow over the course and creating a beautiful setting for what promised to be a thrilling day of footgolf.

The players arrived early, eager to warm up and get a feel for the course before the competition began. The Field of Dreams offered a challenging layout, with undulating hills, strategically placed obstacles, and lush green fairways that tested the skill and precision of each player. As the first groups teed off, the tension and excitement in the air were palpable, with every shot and every putt carrying the weight of potential victory or defeat.

First group had Callum Yeates, Steve Parry, Talan Annear and Tony Follett. In this particular group, Steve Parry stood out as the standout player, hitting an incredible 27 points within the Stableford format. From the first hole, it was clear that Parry was on top of his game. His precise kicks and accurate putts helped him to secure multiple birdies. With a competitive spirit and a focus on each shot, Parry managed to consistently hit the target and score high throughout the entire match.
Following closely behind Parry was Tony Follett, who shot an impressive 16 points. Follett displayed strong footwork and strategic play, managing to navigate the course with precision and skill. Talan Annear and Callum Yeates also made some incredible shots within this group, with Annear hitting 9 points and Yeates shooting 4 points. Annear showcased strong shot-making abilities, while Yeates displayed perseverance and a positive attitude despite the challenging course.

Group 2 had seasoned pros Justin Yeates, Gary Fisher, Paul Hawkins and Andy Isaac.
Paul Hawkins put on a masterclass performance to score an impressive 27 points, leading the way in this group and showcasing his superior skills on the course. Justin Yeates and Andy Isaac followed closely behind with 16 points each, while Gary Fisher struggled to find his form with just 7 points to his name.

From the very start of the match, it was clear that Hawkins was in top form. His precision and accuracy were unmatched as he effortlessly navigated the course, making strategic shots that consistently landed him near the holes. Despite their best efforts, they were unable to match the level of dominance that Hawkins displayed on the course.
On the other hand, Fisher had a tough day on the course, failing to find his rhythm and struggling to make an impact on the match. His shots often found himself in difficult positions that required miraculous shots to salvage a decent score.
While Hawkins was clearly the star of the match, Yeates and Isaac also deserve credit for their solid performances. George Williams and Tomas Brown, on the other hand, had a day to forget as they both shot -3. While both players showed flashes of brilliance at times, they were ultimately unable to match the breathtaking display of skill that Williams demonstrated throughout the match.
